Schwab Active Trading Community Code of Conduct
Welcome. The Schwab Trading Community is
designed to provide you with a helpful, dynamic environment to meet other
traders and improve your trading skills. But the community is only as helpful
as you make it. The more you communicate your viewpoints and connect with other
members, the more valuable your experience will be.
Your use of this website is governed by the Charles
Schwab & Co., Inc. Community User Agreement you agreed to upon becoming a registered member. (Your
participation also serves that you’ve read and understood the Community
User Agreement, which include notice that Schwab may revoke
or suspend your membership if your online behavior deviates from stated
guidelines.) The Code of Conduct merely describes the type of behavior we feel
is necessary to maintain a valuable community experience.
Here are some guidelines to follow as a
community member.
1. Post constructively.
a. Think before you
post.
You are entirely responsible for the content and
consequences of the messages you post on blogs or discussion forums. You cannot
change or delete a message once it is posted and someone has responded to it. In most
cases, facilitators do not preview postings
before they are posted and they are not edited for content, style or errors.
b. Stay on topic.
Each discussion forum or blog has a general
topic or theme. The community facilitator may redirect or remove comments that
are not related to the topic in the area in which they are posted.
c. Remember the
community’s purpose.
The trading community is not a place to tout or
hype stocks. Your fellow members are trying to improve their trading skills and
meet like minded investors, not to provide rumors or self-interested gossip.
For this reason, the Community User Agreement does not allow you to post such
material.
2. Act responsibly.
a. Be honest.
Impersonating any person or falsely stating or
otherwise misrepresenting yourself or your affiliation with a person or entity
violates the Community User Agreement. Do not post false or misleading
statements.
b. Be mindful of the
securities laws.
Do not post any material that would violate
Federal or State law, or the rules and regulations of the United States
Securities and Exchange Commission. In addition:
i. Do not post any information to manipulate, or
attempt to manipulate, any security or the markets in general.
ii. Do not post any non-public information or
“inside” information.
iii. Do not post stock quotes.
iv. Do not post offers to buy or sell any
security.
3. Protect your privacy.
We strongly encourage you to keep your
password/ID secret. You hold sole responsibility for keeping your password/ID
confidential. Likewise, you are responsible for everything posted under your
ID.
However, when interacting in the community, we
suggest that you behave as if you were in a public place. Divulge only what you
would be comfortable having others know about you. Do not assume that you are
completely anonymous and cannot be identified by your messages.
4. Respect others.
a. Do not post material
that does not belong to you.
It is illegal to post anything that is
copyrighted—such as newspaper or magazine articles —unless you make the
appropriate attribution to the source and obtain permission from the author to
reproduce the material. .
Also, do not post material that may belong to
your company, organization or anyone else. Such material may be proprietary and
you may be subject to liability for any unauthorized disclosure.
b. Respect the privacy
of others.
Do not collect, post or share personal
information about others.
c. Do not use the
community for advertising or promotions.
Junk mail, spamming, pyramid schemes and chain
letters are not permitted on the trading community. This prohibition extends to
requests to be emailed, phone numbers for your business or posting of your own
Web site address, if that address has a commercial element to it.
d. Do not post harmful
messages.
Treat everyone participating in the community
website with respect. Do not post messages that interfere with the ability of
others to enjoy the site. Harmful messages includes messages that are:
i. Harassing
ii. Threatening
iii. Abusive
iv. Rude
v. Slanderous
vi. Defamatory
vii. False
viii. Obscene, lewd, sexually explicit or
indecent
ix. Violent
x. Insulting or embarrassing
Finally, we ask that you refrain from posting
any message that calls for unlawful, illegal or inappropriate behavior. Do not
post or transmit any files that contain viruses, corrupted files, “Trojan
Horses” or any other harmful or destructive features that may damage Schwab’s
or someone else’s computer.
For a more detailed description of restricted
behavior, please take a moment to review the Community
User Agreement.
